STAR Award Presentation

STAR Award

During Wednesday night’s meeting, Community Services Officer, Michelle Powers, was presented with a STAR Award for Outstanding Achievement for her work on behalf of the Santa Cops program.

The Santa Cops program takes a lot of planning and organization. In 2021, 42 families qualified for the Santa Cops program. Michelle put up the Sharing Tree in the lobby of the Police Department and added 230 ornaments. Each ornament provided the 115 children with two gifts, a requested clothing item, and a toy from the child’s wish list. In addition to individuals who picked ornaments off the tree, twenty local businesses and individuals contributed monetarily to Santa Cops.

With COVID still present, Michelle had to adapt, and it was determined to provide each family with gifts from the Sharing Tree and gift cards. The donations received from generous donors allowed Michelle to provide each family with gift cards to purchase additional gifts, warm clothing, and a holiday meal.

King Soopers Traffic Signal

During Wednesday night’s meeting, the Board of Trustees approved an agreement with Bohannan Houston Inc. for design and construction management services for a traffic signal on Colorado Boulevard at the King Soopers access point. The design is expected to be complete soon, allowing for a late spring or early summer bid date to construct the signal. Due to an expected long procurement period for the signal materials, construction is not anticipated to begin until the end of 2022.

Oil & Gas Updates

Columbine Pad & Production Facility

In two separate actions, the Board of Trustees approved a Special Review Use and Final Development Plan for the Columbine 4-29HZ Pad and Production Facility. The resolutions approved are for seven (7) horizontal oil and gas wells and associated production facilities on a well pad located south of Grant Street (WCR 18) and east of Frontier Street (WCR 15). Before any construction or drilling, the applicant, Kerr-McGee Oil & Gas, must receive approval and permitting through the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC).

The Town of Firestone Development Code regulates siting, access roads, fencing and color of oil and gas wells and associated above ground production facilities through the review of the required Special Review Use and Final Development Plan applications for proposed oil and gas facilities. The COGCC governs the permitting and regulation of oil and gas wells throughout Colorado.

For more information on timing and next steps of this facility, please contact the Occidental Petroleum Stakeholders Relations Team at 1-866-248-9577 or by email at Coloradostakeholder@oxy.com.

McGavin Pad & Production Facility
During last night’s meeting, the Board of Trustees continued the public hearings for Resolutions 22-06 and 22-07. The decision to continue public hearings came after OXY sent a late afternoon request to continue public hearings.

These proposed resolutions are for the McGavin 6-19HZ Pad and Production Facility Special Review Use and Final Development Plan. This proposed well pad and production facility is for twenty-six (26) horizontal oil and gas wells located south of Pine Cone Avenue (WCR 20) and east of Colorado Boulevard (WCR 13).

PLEASE NOTE: The Board made no decisions on either Resolution 22-06 or Resolution 22-07. The Board of Trustees will have the public hearings on January 26, 2022, at the next Regular Board of Trustees meeting. At this time, the public will have the opportunity to speak on both of these items.
