Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month Proclamation

During Wednesday night's meeting, Mayor Sindelar read a proclamation recognizing March 2022 as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.  In 1987, President Ronald Reagan officially declared March to be Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.  The Town of Firestone, in conjunction with the Arc of Weld County, proudly supports the National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, urging, as President Reagan did before them, that all Americans join together in providing "our fellow citizens with such disabilities both encouragement and the opportunities they need to lead productive lives and to achieve their full potential."

One opportunity that the Firestone Board of Trustees has supported recently is contracting with Via to provide transportation and mobility options that enable residents to live a more self-sufficient and independent life.  Ride times are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Via Mobility Services is available for low to moderate-income, 60+ years of age, or disabled.  Through the end of 2022, Via will not be charging any fares.
To register to use this service, contact Via's Mobility Specialists at 303-444-3043 or visit www.viacolorado.org.

Barefoot Lakes Filing 6 Preliminary Plat

After a Public Hearing, the Board of Trustees approved a resolution approving a Preliminary Subdivision Plat for Filing 6 within the Barefoot Lakes Subdivision.  The property is approximately 83 acres and is located at the southwest corner of Ronald Reagan Boulevard (CR 28) and Colorado Boulevard (CR 13).

The preliminary plat shows the property subdivided into 190 single-family lots and 9 tracts for open space, park, landscaping, drainage, and street right-of-way.  The project will be consistent with adjacent development and complement the overall Barefoot Lakes development.

There are four vehicular access points into Filing 6, two connecting directly to Ronald Reagan Boulevard and two connections into the adjacent Filing 5 that is currently under development.

Pedestrian access is provided via detached sidewalks along interior residential streets, consistent with previous filings.  Pedestrian access is also available on trails, designed as part of a larger network, promoting connectivity in the neighborhood.  Included in the trail network with Filing 6 is a pedestrian underpass for Ronald Reagan Boulevard.  This underpass will be constructed as part of the ongoing Ronald Reagan Boulevard improvements and provide a crossing to connect the existing Barefoot Lakes development south of Ronald Reagan Boulevard to the future development on the north side of Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

A preliminary plat is the first step in the subdivision process and requires action by the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Trustees prior to final plat consideration.

Pedestrian Signal for
Oak Meadows Blvd & Colorado Blvd

At the November 10, 2021 Board meeting, Bohannan Huston Inc. (BHI) as the Town's Traffic Engineering consultant, presented the outcome of two Traffic Signal Warrant Studies on Colorado Boulevard. It was determined that while a full traffic signal was not warranted at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Oak Meadows Boulevard, a pedestrian-activated HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk) Signal would be an appropriate safety improvement. During Wednesday night’s meeting, the Board approved an agreement with BHI to design and provide construction management services for this signal. It is expected that the design will be completed to allow for a summer bid date for the construction of the signal. Learn more about the HAWK signal here.
