Fireworks in Firestone

The Firestone Police Department, along with the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District (FFFPD) would like to remind everyone in our community that the State of Colorado has a state-wide ban on fireworks that explode or leave the ground, except for professional shows. 

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? 

The rule of thumb is anything that does not leave the ground is generally permitted. Here are some examples of permitted fireworks in Firestone.

• Cylindrical Fountains

• Cone Fountains

• Ground spinner

• Dipped Sticks and Sparklers

• Explosive Auto Alarms

• Toy Propellant Devices

• Cigarette Loads

• Trick Noise Makers

• Snake or Glow Worm

• Pressed Pellets

• Shower of sparks to a height of no more than fifteen feet above the ground

   In other words, if it leaves the ground it is illegal!   

ENFORCEMENT

Over the next few weeks, the Firestone Police Department will be strictly enforcing the laws around fireworks.  If you are caught with illegal fireworks, the maximum fine a judge could set for a violation in municipal court is up to $2,650.00.

To report illegal fireworks, we encourage you to contact the non-emergency dispatch at 720-652-4222 and talk to an officer.  If there is an emergency, please call 9-1-1.

SAFETY REMINDERS

• If you do choose to celebrate with legal fireworks please remember to dispose of them correctly in a bucket of water or a metal nonflammable container.

• Do not let children under 16 use fireworks and supervise older children

• Sparklers need to be handled carefully too because they can burn at more than 1,000 degrees. Light them one at a time at arm’s length. Always wear gloves while holding a sparkler, and never give one to a child under 5 years of age.
