Crime Prevention Alert from the
Firestone Police Department
The Firestone Police Department wants to stress the importance of NOT leaving a firearm in your vehicle overnight or while parked.
On Monday, October 3, the Firestone Police Department took a report of a vehicle break-in in the Neighbors Point subdivision, where a rifle was left inside the vehicle overnight. When the owner came outside in the morning, there was glass on the ground, and the rifle was the only item taken. To date this year alone, the Firestone Police Department has taken reports of 5 guns stolen from vehicles.
The best way to help prevent gun thefts in our community is to take your guns with you from your vehicles and not leave them inside parked cars. If you choose to leave your firearm inside your vehicle, there are quality gun safes that you can permanently install in your car.
Criminals are smart and target their victims. Don’t be an easy target for them. They look for signs that make it more likely than not that you may have a weapon inside of your vehicle, including certain vehicle makes/models and stickers on your window, which lets potential suspects know your likes and dislikes.
Anyone with information regarding these crimes is asked to please contact the Firestone Police Department at 303-833-0811. If you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, please call Dispatch at 720-652-4222 for non-emergency calls or dial 9-1-1 if you have an emergency.
