Police Department Sees Immediate Success with
New Cameras
Last week, the Town of Firestone Police Department installed its first Flock Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) camera, and it immediately saw success. On the second day, the Flock camera alerted the Police Department of a stolen vehicle passing through town.
Patrol units responded and located the vehicle on Thistle Ridge. The vehicle was confirmed stolen through the Aurora Police Department, and the driver was transported back to the Firestone Police Department for questioning. In addition, the vehicle was towed back to the Firestone Police Department for processing. Officers recovered a tremendous amount of evidence in the stolen vehicle and will coordinate with Aurora PD for next steps.
The driver was charged with the following:
- 2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft (Felony 4)
- Criminal Possession of Financial Device (Felony 5)
- Possession of Identification Document (Felony 6)
- Possession of Forged Instrument (Felony 6)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Drug Petty Offense)
- Theft – Less than $50 (Petty Offense)
- 2nd Degree Criminal Trespass (Petty Offense)
The implementation and utilization of this technology will only continue to enhance the Firestone Police Department's ability to serve and protect, and will act as a force multiplier in the effort of fighting and deterring crime in our community.
More about Flock ALPRs
Flock Safety ALPRs are cameras strategically located within a community to automatically capture an image – not video – of the rear of a vehicle and the vehicle's license plate. These images are used for real-time alerts when stolen or wanted vehicles enter the Town of Firestone, as an investigative tool and as a deterrent to criminals.
