Continuing to Celebrate Professional Municipal Clerks Week


Throughout this week, we will share information and details about the Firestone Municipal Clerk’s Office and highlight the staff’s vital role in serving the Firestone community.      

Another critical role the Firestone Clerk’s Office is responsible for is Municipal Elections.  As a Statutory Town, the Town of Firestone holds a regular municipal election on the first Tuesday of April in every even-numbered year. The mayor, who serves a two-year term, is up for election at every regular municipal election. Board of Trustees members serve four-year staggered terms; at every regular election there will be three out of the six who are up for election.

The Town Clerk serves as the Designated Election Official and ensures that elections are conducted in compliance with all statutory guidelines.

Municipal Clerks Week Election Responsibilities

In addition to continuing to serve the role as Town Clerk, additional duties during an election year include: 

  • Procurement of voting equipment
  • Coordination of ballot printing and ballot mailing 
  • Coordinating and managing the Candidate Petition Process
  • Draft and finalize ballot layout 
  • Verify all candidate affidavits and petitions
  • Candidate campaign finance training
  • Lot drawing
  • Election Judge training
  • Coordinate campaign finance report filing 
  • Scan and verify every ballot
  • Signature curing for received voted ballots
  • ...and more!
