Michelle Powers STAR Award Recipient

STAR Award

During Wednesday night's meeting, Michelle Powers, Community Services Supervisor, was presented with a STAR Award. The STAR (Special Thanks and Recognition) Award is an employee recognition program that rewards employees for demonstrating exceptional service and exceeding expectations in their work performance.

Michelle was recognized for her dedication and hard work, which significantly impacted the success of the Home Modification Program and the Friends of Firestone Day of Service initiatives in 2024.

Michelle recruited 10 homeowners for the Home Modification Program, guiding them through the often complex and time-consuming application process and seeing these projects through to completion.

Additionally, Michelle's contributions extended beyond the Home Modification Program to the 2024 Friends of Firestone Day of Service, where she identified and worked closely with six homeowners who were served during this event. Michelle guided these homeowners through the application process and helped coordinate the efforts of over 120 volunteers to make the event a resounding success.

Michelle's success in leading these two initiatives exemplifies the essence of effective teamwork and collaboration.

Agreement with Resource Central Approved

The Board of Trustees approved an agreement with Resource Central for two water-wise programs for residents.

The first is a Lawn Replacement Program, allowing residents to obtain a discount for a lawn removal service to remove existing high-water-use landscapes with the intent of the resident replacing them with low-water alternatives. The goal is to make it easier and more affordable for Firestone residents to reduce their water consumption through permanent low-water landscape changes. View more information about this program here.

The second is to participate in the Garden in a Box program, which offers residents a discounted price on pre-assembled planting kits with various low-water plants and helpful tips about water-wise gardening. This program complements the Lawn Replacement Program. View more information about this program here.

PTROC Members Appointed

During Wednesday night's meeting, the Board of Trustees appointed Kadi Abel and Staci Brock were appointed to serve on the Parks, Trails, Recreation and Open Space Commission (PTROC). The Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees, and some of the duties include:

  • Establish a forum for community input regarding parks, trails, open space, and recreation matters and report such input to the Board of Trustees in periodic reports
  • Interact with the Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District regarding the District's plans, programs, services, and facilities, which impact the Town's parks, trails, open space, and recreation facilities.

PTROC typically meets on the first Wednesday of the month. For more information, including links to upcoming agendas, visit www.firestoneco.gov/PTROC.
