Who Are Building Safety Professionals?

Building safety professionals guide and advise architects, engineers, and contractors to help them bring building projects to life while ensuring the safety of occupants and residents. They also help keep existing buildings safe by conducting inspections and adopting the latest building codes.

Building safety professionals include building inspectors, building officials, plans examiners, permit technicians, fire marshals, and more.

When to Call a Professional

Building safety professionals are essential in the building and construction puzzle and are engaged in the building process from the initial blueprint to the finished product.

In Firestone, we encourage residents to contact the Building Division before beginning home improvement projects. We want to guide you on when a permit is required and what other items you should know.  Give us a call or send us an email at 303-833-3291 or building@firestoneco.gov and we’ll help you out.

This time of year, common questions received include:

“I’m doing some outside projects at home this summer – replacing or adding a deck or patio cover, adding a gas line to my grill or fireplace, adding a pool or hot tub, etc.   Do I need permits for this type of work?”

Yes. Building permits ensure your project is designed, built, and installed to meet the Building Codes adopted by the Town of Firestone.  Inspections are performed to ensure the approved plans and building codes are being followed and to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

“I want to replace concrete, landscaping, or add zones to an existing sprinkler system. Do I need a permit?”

No permit is required; however, remember, before starting any type of work or landscaping, dial 811 or visit www.colorado811.org before you dig.

The Town of Firestone celebrates Building Safety Month during May. Over the next month, we will share tips and resources for the community to learn about indoor and outdoor safety for their homes or businesses.

In Firestone, the Building Division provides services to individuals planning property improvements by reviewing construction plans, issuing permits, performing inspections, and enforcing ordinances that ensure safe buildings and a healthy environment. The division also manages the licensing of contractors and trades.
