Town Manager Vacancy & Next Steps

In September, Firestone Town Manager A.J. Krieger submitted his resignation letter to the Board of Trustees, effective November 5, 2025. Mr. Krieger has accepted an appointment as City Manager with an agency outside the state. During Wednesday night’s meeting, the Firestone Board of Trustees appointed Raelynn Ferrera, Assistant Town Manager, as the Acting Town Manager, effective after Mr. Krieger’s last day, until an Interim Town Manager can be appointed.

Additionally, during Wednesday night’s meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Frank Jimenez and Trustee Matt Holcomb were appointed to an Ad Hoc Interim Town Manager Committee to work with the Town Attorney on negotiating a contract with an Interim Town Manager.

2026 Budget Presentation: Final Review

The Board of Trustees had a final review of the 2026 proposed budget. Since September 17, the Board of Trustees has reviewed the 2026 proposed budget in public meetings, including all funds and the Firestone Urban Renewal Authority and Firestone Downtown Development Authority Budgets. Throughout the budget process, the Board of Trustees and community members could utilize an online, interactive tool called Balancing Act to prioritize projects and understand budgetary limitations visually. The Board of Trustees is anticipated to adopt the budget after a Public Hearing on Wednesday, November 12.

Rezoning Ordinance Approved

After a public hearing, the Board of Trustees approved Ordinance 1067, a rezoning for Grant Village, an approximately 29-acre parcel located northeast of the Grant Avenue and 1st Street intersection, southwest of Saddleback Golf Course. This property is part of the Historic Firestone Neighborhood Plan (FHNP), which recommends more housing density and active uses.

The application submitted was to rezone the subject property from R-C (High-Density Residential District) to R-B (Medium-Density Residential District), which reduces the minimum number of dwelling units per acre from ten (10) to five (5). The most significant difference between these zones is that R-B allows single-family attached and detached dwelling units, while the R-C zoning district allows the same single-family dwelling units and multifamily developments.

After a property is zoned, the property owner can move on to a preliminary plat application.

Firestone Boulevard & I-25 Frontage Road Construction Contract

During Wednesday night’s meeting, the Board of Trustees approved a construction contract with Timber Wolf Excavating for the Firestone Boulevard & I-25 Frontage Road improvement project.

This project includes widening Firestone Boulevard between the I-25 Frontage Road and the northbound I-25 on-ramp. Improvements will include a dedicated right-turn lane onto the on-ramp, expanded storage for the westbound left-turn lane onto southbound I-25, and a continuous shoulder along the project corridor.

These improvements were developed in coordination with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), as the road falls under CDOT jurisdiction. The project directly benefits Town residents by improving safety and traffic flow at this key intersection, which is why the Town is funding this project.

Firestone Regional Sports Complex Restroom Facility
Design Services Approved

The Board of Trustees approved an agreement with EV Studio for design services for an updated restroom facility at Firestone Regional Sports Complex.

The current restroom facility at the Complex is more than 15 years old. Over the years, exposure to the elements and frequent use have led to natural wear and tear, resulting in potential safety concerns, including rusted components, weakened structures, and outdated design features that warrant a new facility. Additionally, restroom safety standards and accessibility guidelines have undergone significant evolution.

EV Studio will design a new facility that meets current safety codes and provides inclusive, accessible amenities for all Firestone Regional Sports Complex visitors. The design is expected to be completed this year, and construction on the project is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2026.
