Identifying Lead Service Lines Inventory Project Complete
In the summer of 2024, the Town of Firestone began a project to identify the material of public and private service lines built before 1988 in the Historic Firestone neighborhood. Unlike the other lines within the Town of Firestone, these specific service lines could not be identified based on existing records. Over a few weeks, Town Staff worked with some homes in that neighborhood to participate in the data gathering.
Results
NO lead service lines are identified within the Town of Firestone, and no service lines need to be replaced.
The service line inventory is complete, and all information gathered has been sent to the Colorado Department of Public Health Environment (CDPHE) for compliance. The information submitted includes the verification process used, the pipe material discovered, and whether or not the findings require the service line to be replaced.
Because of these results and the size of the community, the EPA and CDPHE do not require the Town of Firestone to post any further information about this project. The view the compiled results, water customers can view the completed Service Line Inventory in person at Town Hall (9950 Park Ave, Firestone) anytime after Friday, November 1, or by visiting https://pws-ptd.120wateraudit.com/TownofFirestone-CO.
More Information
This project was a result of the EPA publishing the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), which includes significant changes to the current Lead and Copper Rule (LCR). The LCRR aims to protect communities from lead exposure in drinking water. To comply with the new rules, the Town of Firestone began a community-wide project to identify what every service line (e.g., pipe that brings water to your home) in our system is made of. Lines can be made of lead, plastic, brass, steel, or iron. Lead pipes are the primary source of lead in drinking water. Identifying which lines are lead is an important step to removing this source of lead from any community.
