The American Legion Post 1985 held a retirement ceremony for worn, used, tattered, frayed or other damaged American Flags. The event is held bi-annually. Burning the American Flag is the proper way to retire a Flag and shows respect, dignity and honor. There was an armed rifle salute, taps were played and military members saluted the retirement of each one of the hundreds of Flags with civilians placing their hands over their hearts. The flag retirement ceremony is always scheduled before the Honor Flight. American Legion Post 1985 in Firestone accepts any American Flags that need to be retired.
