The American Legion Post 1985 will hold a retirement ceremony for worn, used, tattered, frayed or other damaged American Flags. The event is held bi-annually. Burning the American Flag is the proper way to retire a Flag and shows respect, dignity and honor. There will be an armed rifle salute, taps will be played and military members will salute the retirement of each one of the hundreds of Flags with civilians placing their hands over their hearts. The flag retirement ceremony is always scheduled before the Honor Flight which will be on September 9th at 8:15 am, 3991 Rowe St., Frederick at Station 2 of the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District. The American Legion Post 1985 in Firestone accepts any American Flags that need to be retired.
