[ARCHIVED] Sable Avenue To Be Closed Wednesday, Sept. 25 for 2 Hours to Finishing Flushing Water Lines

The Central Weld County Water District started flushing a 20-inch temporary water supply line on Monday and Tuesday. That flushing will continue this morning, Wednesday, Sept. 25, from about 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The line connects to the main 36-inch line providing water to the Carbon Valley area, which a portion of it was damaged in the flooding north of Firestone on Colorado Boulevard (CR 13). The temporary line will increase supply to the area while repairs continue on the main line.

The CWCWD has closed a portion of Sable Avenue from Devonshire Avenue to Colorado Boulevard to flush the lines utilizing the hydrant at the northeast corner of Sable Avenue and Colorado Boulevard and stretching hoses across the road to flow into the detention pond at Central Park.

Throughout this process, the current water supply to Firestone is safe to drink and will not be interrupted by this water flushing of the new temporary line.

Residents in the St. Vrain Ranch and Ridgecrest neighborhoods, as well as patrons of the Carbon Valley Regional Library, should plan to take Frontier Street (CR 15) as an alternative route during this temporary closure.

Water bacteria samples will be taken from the new temporary line on Wednesday and submitted to the Weld County Health Department. Results are expected Thursday. If all tests are passed, the new temporary line will start delivering additional water supply to the Carbon Valley area by the end of the week.

The main 36-inch water supply line that was damaged in last week’s flooding is still out of service and being repaired. Crews continue to work on Colorado Boulevard (CR 13) north of Firestone where the damage occurred.
