Trail Paver

The Firestone Board of Trustees approved a new crusher fine trail to be constructed at its March 13, 2013, regular meeting. The trail will be funded by the Firestone Parks Impact Fee Funds.

The trail will run along Frontier Street connecting the existing trail at St. Vrain Ranch Boulevard south to Pine Cone Avenue. The trail will also circle Firestone’s Central Park, utilizing existing concrete trails where available. The total trail addition is 3.16 miles. The trail is an expansion to the Town’s existing trail system and is consistent with the Firestone master parks and trails plan.

Funds for the $50,000 trail will come from the Town’s Parks Impact Fee Funds, which are collected from new development and are specifically allocated for the acquisition, design, construction, and improvements to the town parks, trails, and open spaces facilities. Funds from this impact fee can only be utilized for the noted items, and not for general operations and maintenance of town parks. The impact fees are required to be used within a 10-year period.

The crusher fine material is small particles of crushed rock that give the trail a packed sand-like surface. A permanent concrete trail of the same length would cost approximately $560,000.

Public Works started on the trail the week of April 30 and construction is anticipated to be complete by mid-May 2013.
