The Firestone Cultural Committee is excited to partner with the Carbon Valley Regional Library to host the Firestone Art & Music Show in January 2014. The show will highlight Carbon Valley artists throughout December and January, with a reception set for Jan. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carbon Valley Regional Library, 7 Park Ave., Firestone.
The show is open to local artists from Firestone, Frederick, Dacono and Mead. Artwork will be accepted in five categories: dry media (pencil, ink, pastel, scratchboard, charcoal); wet media (oil, acrylic, gouache); dimensional (sculpture, glass, fiber, ceramic/pottery, jewelry); photography and digital art; and mixed media. Artists aged 14 and older may submit to the exhibit, which is free to enter. Artwork may be listed for sale, with any sold pieces donating a percentage of sales to the High Plains Library District Foundation.
“Historically speaking, art and music have recorded culture by expressions based on the region, cultures, traditions and religions,” said Teresa Curtis, Firestone Cultural Committee member. “It is when these expressions come together in the form of public art displays that a community is considered an ‘up and coming’ area to live in, with a secure, forward moving community. The Firestone Art and Music Show is an opportunity for Carbon Valley residents to learn, connect and share in the presentation of the burgeoning artistic talents within the Carbon Valley area.”
The reception will feature local musicians David Okada of Bailout! and sisters Natalie and Caroline Curtis on harp. Refreshments will be served compliments of the Firestone Cultural Committee.

We are always looking for ways for the community to use our space to its fullest potential. Partnerships like this make things happen.”
Interested artists should fill out the application online at www.ci.firestone.co.us/FirestoneArtMusicShow and submit samples of their work for review. The Firestone Cultural Committee and the Carbon Valley Regional Library will review the applications and coordinate installation. The deadline to submit applications for the show is Jan. 3.
