Home Modification Repair Program

The Town of Firestone is accepting applications from income-qualified homeowners who need assistance making necessary health and safety repairs to their homes at no cost. Applications will be processed until funds have been depleted. This service is funded by the Town of Firestone and by a grant from the Weld County CDBG Program.

The Town of Firestone, in partnership with Brothers Redevelopment, Inc., coordinates a wide variety of repairs and modifications that enable residents with disabilities or physical limitations to avoid injury and enjoy increased mobility.  

To qualify, homeowners must be 60 years or older, have a disability, and/or be income-qualified. Applicants must own and occupy a home in the Town of Firestone and intend to reside in it for a minimum of 12 months. For homeowners requesting exterior painting, the home must be no taller than one and a half stories.

  2. Exterior Home-Repair Services
  3. Interior Repairs
  • Roll-in shower conversion
  • Step-in shower conversion
  • Wheelchair ramp construction
  • Wide-tread exterior stair installation for walker access
  • Door winding for wheelchair/walker access
  • Grab bar installation
  • Hand-held shower installation
  • Roll-under sink/counter installation
  • Carpet to solid surface upgrade for wheelchair/walker mobility

To qualify, 

  1. You must own a home within the Town of Firestone.
  2. You must have homeowner’s insurance.
  3. You must be current with your mortgage.
  4. Your household income must be below 80% Area Median Income for Weld County.

Required Documents

  1. ID of everyone in the household over the age of 18.
  2. Proof of gross monthly income for everyone in the household such as Social Security Award Letter. If employed, please provide 2 current pay stubs.
  3. Any additional proof of income such as alimony, child support, or income generated from other assets such as a pension.
  4. Most current tax return, or if you no longer submit tax returns, complete the affidavit at the end of the application.  
  5. If self-employed, provide 2 years' most recent tax returns and a profit and loss statement.
  6. 3 months of bank statements for all adults in the household and for all bank accounts (every page required, including blank pages).
  7. Mortgage statement or release of deed of trust if the home is paid off.
  8. Homeowners insurance policy declaration page.
  9. 1 household bill: utility, trash, water, etc.

Fair Housing Practices

The Friends of Firestone programs are dedicated to furthering fair housing practices within the Firestone community. Residents should be aware of fair housing protections provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

HUD is the federal agency responsible for administering the Fair Housing Act. Within HUD, the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity is the office that receives complaints. To file a complaint, contact the Denver HUD Fair Housing office at 1-800-877-7353 or HUD's Discrimination Hotline at 1-800-669-9777. You can also download the discrimination complaint form and instructions from HUD's website. HUD will investigate the complaint at no charge to you. If you are hearing or speech impaired, you can reach the HUD Fair Housing office through the TTY service at 1-800-927-9275.
