In April of 2022, the Board of Trustees approved an agreement with North Range Behavioral Health to establish and create a Co-Responder Program. The agreement also includes the Town of Frederick and the City of Dacono, as the Co-Responder Program will serve the entire Carbon Valley. The program will provide the Firestone Police Department with assistance from behavioral health specialists who will respond to calls with a behavioral health component, such as those involving mental health, substance abuse, death or serious injury of a family member, or other crises. The goal of including these behavioral health specialists on these calls is to de-escalate any crisis situations while also providing involved individuals outreach, education, referral, and screening services.
